I have found that the actual planning for a Disney Park vacation is one of the most exciting parts of the overall experience. If done correctly, it can be a fun and informative process.   Key factors like: which coast (east or west), length of stay, and group size and age ranges, will dictate how far in advance you must start this process.   

A couple of pieces of advice (take it or leave it):

1- Do not wait until the last minute to plan a Disney vacation

2- Don't weigh down your Disney trip with too many non-Disney activities
